No Bulletin Board? No Problem: 5 Classroom Bulletin Board Alternatives
Classroom bulletin boards are super useful for student work you want to display, for welcoming students into the room, and for displaying important teaching materials, but unfortunately not all classrooms have enough (or any) bulletin boards. Here are some simple DIY bulletin board alternatives! This post contains affiliate links.
Bulletin Board Alternative #1:
Use a roll of cork backing to construct your own DIY bulletin board. Simply cut the size you’d like your bulletin board to be and then attach to the wall using command strips. You can place several lengths of cork side-by-side to create any size you want.
Bulletin Board Alternative #2:
Use foam core board to make a bulletin board. Create a small board using just one foam core board, or arrange as many as you want to make a larger size. You can find affordable foam core board at the Dollar Store! Attach your boards to the wall using command strips. You can cover your DIY bulletin board with paper or fabric just like you would a regular bulletin board, and you can use staples or tacks just like you would too.
Bulletin Board Alternative #3:
Use your classroom door instead! You can cover the door with bulletin board paper, or leave it plain. Attach student work or other materials using sticky tack.
Bulletin Board Alternative #4:
Hang a line of string (or twine or wire) at eye-level height and use clothespins to display student work. It’s super easy to change out your classroom displays!
Bulletin Board Alternative #5:
No bulletin boards, but plenty of whiteboard space? You can section off part of the whiteboard to use as an alternative bulletin board, or use the whole thing. Outline your “bulletin board” with bulletin board borders using sticky tack or magnetic tape if the board is magnetic. Then display student work or teaching materials using sticky tack or magnets.
Whether you have a real bulletin board or are using one of these alternatives, I've got tons of bulletin board ideas that work for just about any grade or subject level in my Monthly Bulletin Board Bundle!
I hope one of these bulletin board alternatives works for you in your classroom!
