3 Fun Earth Day Activities for Your Classroom
Earth Day is a great opportunity to teach kids about our planet and the importance of taking care of it. Here are some easy Earth Day activities perfect for elementary classrooms that will help you get your students excited about protecting their home planet! This post contains affiliate links.
1. Plant something together! Nothing brings people together like planting something new. Have your students pick out seeds, soil, and tools needed to plant a small garden in your classroom. This activity not only encourages environmental stewardship, but also teaches young children valuable teamwork skills as they work together to nurture their plants. For a project that requires fewer supplies, just plant one seed in a pot as a class, or have one plant per table of students.
2. Read a book about ways to help the earth, like My First Book of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle or This Class Can Save the Planet. Then, have students record how they will be kind to the earth with this simple Earth Day Craft and Bulletin Board Kit.
3. Create earth-friendly art projects. Explain to your students the importance of recycling and then challenge them to come up with creative ways to reuse everyday materials like paper scraps, cardboard boxes, and newspaper clippings in art projects. Not only will this encourage them to think outside the box, but it’s also great for the environment since fewer resources will be used in the process. Of course, don’t forget to display their finished artwork proudly in your classroom!
Earth Day is an excellent opportunity for both teachers and students to learn more about taking care of our planet while having fun at the same time!
